For non bloggers - a tutorial

Yesterday I ran into a long lost friend, who happens to read the blog religiously.

So he says.

I drove away thinking about all the people that read this blog and don't comment.
Most don't know how to do it (My friend didn't either) and my very best friend in the world reads this blog, but still struggles with the comments.

I guess I don't get it.

Having been a blogger for over 4 years now, it comes easily to me.
But it must have been difficult at some point I imagine.
Someone must have shown me too.

So, here's a small tutorial for those non- bloggers who wish to leave a comment at some point.

Go to the bottom of the post. On the bottom, towards the right side there is the word 'comments' sometimes with a number in front of it. That just means that's how many people commented before you. If you click on it it will open another window.

It will show you everyone else's comments there.
You can take the time and read them or just scroll down.
When you get to the bottom of the page, you'll see a white box "Post comments here"
- i think it says.

Then you type your comment in the white box, and go to the drop down menu where it says 'post as' - and choose 'annonymous' - then click on 'post comment'. A small tip, because you are choosing annonymous (that is because you don't have a blog of your own, and it's the easiest way to comment) please be sure to leave your name at the bottom.

I"d love love love to see comments from people (who I know read this blog) but don't usually leave a message.
At first I thought it was 'cause you had nothing to say about what you are reading. Now, after having talked to my two friends, I am starting to think it's because you had no idea how.

I hope you enjoyed my short tutorial.
And I'll bet you'll end up liking knowing how to leave comments, it really is like you're contributing to the conversation.

Besides, it lets me know you're reading!
(and let's face it, it's all about me in this case)

And then, as a bonus, you could add your email to my growing list for when I go 'private' - otherwise I'd miss you and you'd miss me... and that's just sad.

Tomorrow is also my second to last chemo, and I'll be feeling crappy after it.

Even more reason to post a comment for the very first time, and cheer me up ~ right?

BTW: it took me 3 clickings on Post Comment before it was accepted... maybe that's where people give up. They have to persevere!

I have a number of people who regularly read my blog too. They know how to comment, but they never do. The only reason I know they're reading it is because when I see them at social gatherings and go to tell them what I've been up to lately, they'll say, "oh, I know, I saw it on your blog." Some people just like to watch.

Sometimes I go to look at my stats page and see that, say, 48 people have visited a certain post - but only 1 person commented. I always have lots of people who look, but very few who comment. I know my family reads my blog, but rarely do they say anything about it. Makes me feel like maybe I'm just not that interesting - but really, it shouldn't matter to me since the one person I'm writing it for is apparently getting a kick out of it. But he doesn't know how to comment...

I've been reading your blog regularly for awhile now and have never commented before. I guess I never really realized how encouraging it must be to get responses from all those people "peeking in your windows". I have found your blog to be a real encouragement to me as I am dealing with issues with pain but nothing that compares to what you are going through. I would love to keep reading....and commenting! No excuses now! :)

Hi, I feel uncomfortable about commenting, thats it! I think VV may have been talking about ME! But I do read both blogs regularily, and I love them both. I would like to be on your "private list" if you will have me. Good luck on the last of the chemo.

Happy 2nd to last as well.
Els - it always takes me about 3 clicks before the post is actually posted.
I don't always post, but I always read :)

Els - 'welcome' and thank you for being persistent. I did see that someone from Amsterdam was reading, but could not figure out for the life of me who that could be :) I added you.

VV - I know the feeling. But I always wonder why they don't comment anyway.

Sayre - you're right it shouldn't and doesn't matter, but it still feels nice to get feedback, and 'converse' to the crowd you are writing for. In your case, your son already appreciates 'his blog' so you've succeeded.

Tracey - thank you for 'peeking in my windows' I appreciate you take the time to do so. It's nice to 'meet' you and to 'talk' to you too. It does add a whole new dimension to it to hear feedback though, so I appreciate your comment :) PS - i added you.

Michele - if you feel uncomfortable, please don't do it, I don't want anyone to feel uncomfortable commenting, but I love to hear your thoughts on any post and I appreciate that you took the time to post on this one... I added you.

VV - Now wait a minute - I commented just yesterday on the video and I commented on the renos and the cakes, and the cruise trip and even the funny camel picture ... but I don't usually comment on the political posts you have up because I honestly don't understand them. I am still not sure how your government works and it's quite different of our. (although, in all fairness, I hardly understand ours either) Just wanted to, ahem, explain my shortcomings to you :)

Mandi - that's exactly how I feel. Yeay for chemo ending and boo for radiation and surgery next. I sooo don't want another surgery (But I know you understand that better than anybody)

Eileen - I know you don't always post - even though I really love it when you do. I don't know what's up with the 3 clicks to post a comment though - that's nuts. It should be one click. Sorry on behalf of dumb Blogger! UGh.

i'm wishing you as little crappiness as possible!

Embracing - hey, so good to see you again. Thanks for coming by, I appreciate it :) I'll stop by and see how you've been!

Gayle - True. I am very excited to have this one crossed off my list. One more to go. Still a long road ahead though :( But, one step at a time...

Michelle (Vancouver) I wasn't referring to you, I was referring to my neighbor Michele here in Maryland. You're cool, you comment. :-)

VV - Gulp. Oh. There's that foot in my mouth again... Well, now you know why I don't comment on the political posts though, anyway. hehee

Hi Michelle,
Just a note to let you know that I read you all the time (I think you know that) and I don't always comment. Sometimes it's because every day I want to say "You amaze me"...My wishes for you for the next couple of days are to feel the least crappy possible. Sending love as always

Hi - I found your blog through a link on another blog.
I'm a 3 year survivor, older than you, but so grateful to be alive.
I'd love to be able to continue following your story, because I really want to see you finish, and go back to your real life.

Hi, I have read your blog from the beginning, but also never posted. We were dx'd about the same time. Your writing has been an incredibly positive energy, and I can't wait to read the new updates when posted. Stay strong and keep that wonderful sense on humor! Would really love to see how you're doing and follow your return to 'normal' life!

I've never commented before, but I appreciate the opportunity to continue to follow you as you share with us the stuggles & triumphs of this crappy hand that you've been dealt. I'm in the reconstruction phase and I have really appreciated your honest writing. Blog on!

I was just diagnosed this Monday. Met with the final doctor, medical oncologist today. So many doctors and so many tests!!! Feels like I've had cancer for years already!! Finding your blog has really helped me. I'm also on the younger end, 45. Nice to see a younger persons experience. I've been diagnosed with the exact same cancer as you. Thanks for your blog. My email is aliisa66@hotmail.com if you do go private.
